After more than a century downtown Grand Rapids on Monroe Center, Groskopf’s Fine Luggage & Gifts is closing.

The retailer announced the closing on Facebook this week. The other Groskopf's location, on East Paris, remains open.

Wood TV 8 reports that the retirement of one of the owners, Jeff Heth, was a big factor in its decision.

His brother, John Heth, will continue on at the East Paris store.

In a post to snapretail.com, they say:

Consolidating our two stores will allow us to bring our customers a greater knowledge of the travel industry.  A larger selection of quality luggage, business cases, gifts and an enhanced writing instrument department."

According to Wood TV 8, Groskopf’s was founded by the Heth’s great grandfather, William Groskopf, in 1881.  The original store started out selling sample cases and trunks for business travelers.

Grosfkop's Downtown will be selling merchandise at 15-70% off. Store fixtures and displays are for sale too.
