WZZM13 reports that ArtPrize made a pretty major announcement Thursday afternoon regarding the how the next decade of the art competition will look.

This September, ArtPrize will celebrate its 10th year in Grand Rapids and according to WZZM13, after this year the competition will only take place every other year.  As of the announcement, there are no plans to move it anywhere else, it just won't be an annual event anymore.

The press release from ArtPrize says on the "off" years they will hold "Projects" which will take place from September through October at different places across Grand Rapids and "include education and cultural programming that is free and open to the public. The press release also says the cost for the "Projects" will be funded by ArtPrize and its sponsors.

 

The schedule moving forward from ArtPrize looks like this:

  • 2019: Project 1
  • 2020: ArtPrize 11
  • 2021: Project 2
  • 2022: ArtPrize 12
  • 2023: Project 3
