‘American Hustle’ and ‘Gravity’ Lead Way with 10 Oscar Nominations Apiece

The 2014 Oscar nominations were announced Thursday morning by “Thor 2” star Chris Hemsworth and Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.

So who are the 2014 Oscar nominees? Who were the big surprises and the big snubs? 

“American Hustle” and “Gravity” were the big winners with 10 total nominations each; “12 Years a Slave” had nine nominations; and “Captain Phillips”: and “Nebraska” had six each.

Notable snubs include Robert Redford, for”All is Lost,” and Tom Hanks, for “Saving Mr. Banks,” in the best actor category. Pixar was not nominated for “Monsters University,” the second time in three years the once dominant studio hasn’t been nominated in the Best Animated Feature category.

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were first two actors to ever be nominated for back-to-back Oscars for the same two films (last year for “Silver Linings Playbook” and this year for”American Hustle.”

“Her” scored four nominations, including for “The Moon Song” written by director Spike Jonze and Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

This year is Amy Adam’s fifth Oscar nomination in eight years, having been previously nominated for”Junebug,” “Doubt,” “The Master” and ‘The Fighter.” She has never won..

“The Lone Ranger” got as many nominations as “Inside Llewyn Davis,” and “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa” is now an Oscar-nominated film.

Hemsworth and Isaacs only revealed nominees in the major categories.
