It's almost time for the kids to head back to school, and if your child attends Grand Rapids Public Schools, that probably means you're on the hunt for uniforms.

Elementary and middle school students has phased in the uniforms over the past two years. This year, high school students will be required to wear uniforms, as well.

The dress code has been implemented for a number of reasons including hopes that it will lead to, "reduced distraction, peer pressure, and behavioral issues."

The new dress code includes limited colors and styles: On top, students can wear navy, light blue, white, black, red, or orange collared shirts. As far as bottoms go, pants (shorts, dresses, or skirts) can be navy, black, or tan.

GRPS has some "preferred vendors" where they say parents can find uniforms. These include select Meijer stores (Alpine, 54th St., and both 28th St. locations), the Lands' End section at Sears, Screen Ideas, Office Depot, and the Salvation Army.
