Two Michigan schools could win thousands of dollars in security equipment to help keep students safe.

Aquinas College and Grand Valley State University are finalists in Stanley Security's Together for Safer Schools grant program.

The "Together for Safer Schools" Grant is a program started in 2013 by Stanley Security to help make schools more secure by providing security products and services, while helping to spread awareness for school safety and security.

The two Michigan colleges are in different tiers, so are not competing against each other.

Aquinas College is in Tier 1 for schools with 8,000 students or less. GVSU is in Tier 3 for schools with 20,000 students or more.

Should it win, GVSU will receive $200,000 in security products from Stanley Security. Aquinas College will receive $100,000 in products if it wins.

Voting for runs through 1 a.m. EDT Saturday (Feb. 14).

You can vote online at Stanley Safer Schools website; via Twitter by using the schools' hashtag and #STANLEYSecurity; or by text. To vote for Aquinas, text "aquinas" to 334455. For GVSU, text "gvsuedu" to 334455.

The prize money can be used on video surveillance, fire detection, emergency notification, panic buttons and monitoring services.
