Michigan native and "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin has died at the age 76.

News broke Monday morning that Franklin was "gravely ill" in a Detroit hospital. She was sent home for hospice care a few days later. Despite reports that she wasn't doing well, her nephew told reporters that she was "alert, laughing, and teasing" on Tuesday.

Franklin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 2010.

While she is the "Queen of Soul", many often associate Franklin with Motown, even though she was never signed to that particular label.

During her career, Aretha won 18 Grammys.

Her last album was released in 2017.
