Wednesday's Big News

Kalamazoo artist Gurmej Singh, who professionally goes by Artist SinGh, has been permanently banned from ArtPrize, The Grand Rapids Press/MLive reported.

Singh told The Press' Jeffrey Kaczmarczyk he "was disappointed" with the decision, adding "my idea is to show art to the general public."

He had entered in 2009 and 2011, but had issues with planned ArtPrize installations in 2012 at The B.O.B. and in 2013 with a shortly-unfurled 11,300-foot-long painting along the Grand River, The Press reported.

Singh told The Press he has 100 drawings in windows of downtown businesses including Dodd's Record Shop, 20 S. Division Ave., and Stella's Lounge, 53 Commerce Ave. SW, in a series titled Project Holy Cow. However, ArtPrize officials said Singh is not an official entry.
