S-a-t-u-r-d-a-y. The weekend is here, and ArtPrize continues its vibrance in downtown Grand Rapids and Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.

Today (Saturday, Sept. 27) is the fourth day of the 19-day public art exhibition, which runs through Oct. 12 in Grand Rapids.

About 65,000 votes had been cast by 8 a.m. today in first-round public voting, according to ArtPrize's vote tabulations. The voting helps determine a $200,000 grand prize winner, with another $200,000 grand prize selected by a juried panel of art critics.

Chalk Up Monroe is all about chalk art from noon to 4 p.m.

The chalk art is going to rub out a ribbon of hues on North Monroe Avenue NW from Michigan Street NW to Boardwalk Condominiums, 904 Monroe Avenue NW.

Coordinated by Monroe Community Church, 800 Monroe Avenue NW, the palette runs from catty corner of DeVos Place at Michigan State University's planned Biomedical Research Center site (formerly The Grand Rapids Press) north to Boardwalk Condominiums.

Like all ArtPrize events, it is free. Scoops Ice Cream Shoppe, with locations at 40 Monroe Center NW and in Allendale, is to be on site.

Monroe Community Church is also an ArtPrize venue, with 15 entries in its 4,000-square-foot space. The artists include Stephen Aman, Ruth Foote, Lea Goldman, Barbara Holmes, MaKenzie Frank, Mark Long, David Macomber, Heather Miller, Allise Noble, Gail Palpant, Kyle Ragsdale, Paul Rio, Gwendolyn Terry, Laura Victore and Brian Whitfield.

Today's Thing to Do

Singer-songwriter Mary McGuire's music is an intertwining of folk, pop and rock, with, in her own words, "poignant lyrics and complex harmonies."

She is working on completing an album, "Love Struck" and her song "Better Than Me" was part of "Independent No. 1's Vol. 2 Compilation" release last year.

The Detroit native performs selections from "Love Struck" and her previous albums from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the President's Room at St. Cecilia Music Center, 24 Ransom Avenue NE.
