"Voices of the City" is his brainchild, a sacred music concert featuring more than 300 choir singers at 3 p.m. today in the Cathedral of St. Andrew, 301 Sheldon Avenue SE.

An ArtPrize entry, "Voices of the City" features performers from the Cathedral of St. Andrews and the diocese in addition to Catholic Central, Grand Rapids Christian and West Catholic high schools, Basilica of St. Adalbert, Aquinas College and First (Park) Congregational, LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed and Westminster Presbyterian churches.

The concert includes performances by individual choirs with a finales of gospel hymns by the combined choirs. Besides the performance in the Cathedral of St. Andrew, because of limited seating there is to be a live feed showing in Cathedral Square Center's second-floor gallery, 360 S. Division Avenue. Like most ArtPrize events, admission is free.

Cathedral Square is an ArtPrize venue. It has 40 ArtPrize entries at its indoor and outdoor locales, with its theme being “HeARTbeat: The Pulse of Art & Life" having a focus on works that employ rhythm both as a formal compositional device and as subject matter.

Meanwhile, a reminder for choirs, ArtPrize is seeking your participation for the ArtPrize awards ceremony at 8 p.m. Oct. 10. Rybicki has composed an original song to be performed at the celebration.

Today's Thing to Do

With its prime location in front of Van Andel Arena, the 10-foot high, 18-foot wide three-dimensional installation titled "Love ArtPrize" has been an early favorite by ArtPrize throngs in downtown Grand Rapids.

The metal, glass and LED-lit structure was constructed by Kiaralinda , who is part of a creative duo with Todd Ramquist, nicknamed the Whimzey Twinz, from Safety Harbor, Fla. He has an ArtPrize entry titled "JArtPrize" at DeVos Place.

Today from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. is a kissing contest at the "Love ArtPrize" site at Van Andel Arena. The promise for participants is that everyone wins a prize and that the longest kiss wins a great prize.

Van Andel Arena is located at 130 W. Fulton St.
