ArtPrize is celebrating opening day with Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss, the Grand Valley State University Laker Marching Band and Dance Company, the Grand Rapids Symphony and more tonight at 7pm at Rosa Parks Circle in Grand Rapids.

ArtPrize voting is open and the celebration kicks into high gear tonight. Here's a schedule of events for tonight's gathering at Rosa Parks Circle.

7:00pm

  • The Grand Valley State University Laker Marching Band will play starting at the Eberhard Center. The band will head through downtown with the GVSU Dance Team to Rosa Parks Circle where they will perform a second time under the direction of GVSU President Thomas J. Haas.  

7:15pm

  • Todd Herring, ArtPrize Director of Creative and Communications, will give opening remarks before introducing Mayor Rosalynn Bliss.

More

  • The Grand Rapids Symphony brass sections will perform patriotic anthems and cinematic scores to honor 9/11 first responders. The program will also include selections from Harry Potter and Game of Thrones.
  • The Wall That Heals, a life sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, will be welcomed to Grand Rapids.

ArtPrize Nine voting opened at noon today. Round 1 Voting will continue through 11:59pm on Sept. 30 with the Final 20 announcement coming on Oct. 1 at 1pm at Rosa Parks Circle.
