Andy Rent

Starting out as a weatherman/TV-Radio host for TV8 in the 70's, Andy also played "Captain Woody" on the TV8 afternoon kids show, and probably is the most recognized personality in the West Michigan area having been on radio and TV for the better part of three decades. Andy is originally a "Hoosier" from Muncie, Indiana and always wanted to be in “show biz”. After graduating from Ball State University, Andy stayed in Indiana, working in radio and TV in Richmond, Muncie and Indianapolis. He moved to Grand Rapids to work at WOOD-TV where he met his wife Kathy. Andy is deeply involved in the Grand Rapids and West Michigan community. He has served on the board of directors of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), the Metropolitan YMCA, and Easter Seals-Michigan. He also assists the Salvation Army, DeGage Ministries, JDRF, Disability Advocates, Hope Network, and various other non-profit organizations. Interests: I love golf, travel, reading, dining out, theater and movies. And, of course my children and grandchildren. Andy and his wife Kathy have 7 children and 13 grandchildren. They have a busy life. Music: I love all kinds - especially jazz, blues, and classical, rock and pop hits. The best part about my job: The ability to make a difference in the community.

They’re Tearing Down The Great Lakes Shipping Company

Change is always difficult in life, and when a favorite spot of yours, shop, theater, restaurant, bar, closes, you feel a loss. It had been a part of your life, and you hate to see it end.

I get a sad, nostalgic feeling when I drive by Breton Village, by way of Burton, now. The long running, classic watering hole/restaurant, Great Lakes Shipping Company is coming down. It closed in May, but they have now begun tearing it down. Sniff...sniff.
