A couple of days ago on Regis and Kelly Lee And Gelman and Michael Strahan, the hosts-all 5 of them--revealed a list of the worst songs of the 80's, written by Robert of the Radish, music critic for Yahoo! The song he deemed the "Worst Song of the 80's"? The Pina Colada Song by Rupert Holmes. Yeah, I can kinda see it. But this information spawned another list.
We don't really play Ace of Base, the Swedish pop group from the early 90's, on WFGR. They just really aren't "Classic" enough for us yet. But there's probably not many people who haven't heard "I saw the Sign" or "All that She Wants" and thought "That's a catchy little tune". As always, the little pop group has a dirty secret.
The fun thing about having to write blogs for WFGR.COM? I get to surf the net and find funny things. Some are just funny, others are hilarious, and some are just dumb. And some aren't safe for work, so beware.

The Wall Street Journal has lots of time on it's hand to come up with these type of lists. "Best Places to retire" and "Coolest Places to invest" are just a few they have turned out in the past months. And now you can see where your career stacks up in their latest list of "Best and Worst Careers"!
Birthday presents can be simple or can be unique and extravagant. And some are creative. And a wife's present to her husband can be special even if it's something she makes, not buys. Leigh knows her hubby Oren very well, and his love of TV shows is pretty obvious when you see her present to him.
It's possible they have ran out of ideas in Hollywood. Not only have they rehashed movie after movie and idea after idea, now they are remaking old TV shows into movies. That sentence makes it sound like they haven't been doing that for years. NOW they are taking shows that really were not all that successful and making them into movies. "Good Times" is an example.
So Saturday night I was looking around the old Internets, and I happened upon a picture. A picture of The Mayor of Grand Rapids, George Heartwell, holding a sign. A sign that said four words. Four words that the Mayor may never live down. Four words that may get him re-elected eight more times.
The Great Flood of '13 is on everyone's mind. Luckily there really hasn't been much trouble with that. Sure there will be some damage, but that's just stuff. As far as we know, no one's been killed or anything. So I was downtown and took some pictures of the flood. Enjoy.
I say it every time something classic is remade. Whether it's an old song being redone by a hot new hip kid artist, a TV show being "retooled" for a new audience, or a movie being remade for the 21st century (the latest being a report that "Weird Science" will be updated) Every thing old is new again. Tom Cook, from our sister station 100.5 The River, posted on his Facebook Page a couple of nights ago about swing dancing returning for the spring/summer to Rosa Parks Circle. "I love this city" was Tom's exclaim. I love this city too, but another reason.
