Craig’s Picture of the Day No. 13

The headline says: Craig's Picture of the Day No. 13. Actually, it's my first one.

But like they do with new checks at the bank, I'm starting with today's date: The 13th.

So, here's today's Craig's Picture Of The Day.

It was taken on my ride to Kentwood on Thursday night, on Cascade Road, with about 2,300 other people while going 2 miles per hour.

New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter Visits Kalamazoo to Reward Deserving Kids

I grew up in the Kalamazoo area and played ball until my sophomore year of high school.

I, ahem, blew out my knee and couldn't run anymore. That's it. Just as I was graduating, I heard about this kid playing American Legion ball named Jeter. Was gonna be a big leaguer some day. While I Heard that a lot, I didn't think anything of it.

Jimmy V Foundation Commercial Makes Me Cry.

Damn Jimmy V Foundation. They used to use sports figures to recite the famous Jim Valvano speech from the ESPYS. Now they are using kids and parents of kids with cancer. I hate crying at TV commercials. Maybe it's because I'm tired. Maybe it's because like so many cancer has touched my family.

Taylor University’s Cool ‘Silent Night’ Tradition

Every year at Taylor University, located in Upland, Ind., about halfway between Fort Wayne and Indianapolis just a few miles off I-69 east of Marion, Ind., they have a tradition called "Silent Night."

The private Christian university celebrates the holiday by encouraging fans to be, well, silent until Taylor scores the 10th point at a men's basketball game. After that, it's a whole different scene.

‘Imagine All The People:’ John Lennon Killed This Day in 1981

It was on this day in 1981 that John Lennon, one of the original Beatles, was gunned down in front of his apartment in New York. He was 51.

Think how much different the music of the 80's and beyond would have been had he, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Elvis Presley lived.

Top 3 Places to See Christmas Lights Displays in Grand Rapids!

With my birthday is being right around the Christmas holiday, seeing giant Christmas light displays is right up my alley.

As a Kalamazoo native, I grew fond of Christmas Card Lane on Lauderdale Street. Everyone put larger-than-life Christmas cards in their front yards with lights and some automated twinkling lights shows. It really got you into the season.

With that in mind, I have compiled a list of the top three places in Grand Rapids to see cool Christmas light displays!

With South African Icon Nelson Mandela’s Passing, Reviving ‘Quote of the Day’

I don't do this very often, but with the passing Thursday of South African icon Nelson Mandela, it seemed like a natural to revive the "Quote of the Day."

Simple, yet powerful, just like Mandela, South Africa's former president and civil rights leader who died at 95 years old.

Which State Curses The Most?

I saw this on the crawl of Good Morning America, and thought easy it would be New York or New Jersey. Maybe it's just the stereotype I have of those states. Rough, gruff, bombastic people with few manners and just willing to blurt out whatever. Nope. New Jersey is in the Top 5, but the state that lets the foul language fly the most?
