Kenowa Hills High School boys' soccer player Peter Brown is this week's Meijer-97.9 WGRD High School Athlete of the Week.

Second-year Knights Coach Frank Andrade almost sounds like he doesn't have enough superlatives to describe Brown.

"He excels," Andrade said of Kenowa Hills' leading scorer. "He's a great player and he's become a great leader."

Grand Rapids Christian High School Boys’ Soccer’s Jacob Witte Named Athlete of the Week

Grand Rapids Christian High School boys' soccer player Jacob Witte is this week's Meijer-97.9 WGRD High School Athlete of the Week.

The senior forward's leadership as captain and contributor is one of the primary reasons why Grand Rapids Christian is 14-1-1 and is ranked No. 3 in Division 2 by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches' Association.

"I could tell on my first day that he'd stand out," first-year Eagles Coach Joshua Miller said of Witte. "I could tell he was a natural leader, ... and that hasn't changed.

"He's great on the field, but he's also great off the field."

Ottawa Hills High School volleyball player Ladaysia Alexander is this week's Meijer-97.9 WGRD Athlete of the Week.

"Ladaysia Alexander has had to overcome more obstacles in 17 years than most individuals would in their entire life," Ottawa Hills Coach Sara Sherry said.

Michigan Hosts Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship in Escanaba [Video]

Bass fishing takes center stage as many of the world’s best anglers battle it out on Lake Michigan in Escanaba for the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship today through Sunday.

The championship is being held on Bays de Noc as part of a partnership between Pure Michigan and Bassmaster to promote the state as a top destination for anglers.

Rockford High School boys' water polo player David Newberger is this week's Meijer-97.9 WGRD Athlete of the Week.

Newberger excels athletically and academically, standing out on a team currently ranked No. 1 by the Michigan Water Polo Association with a 17-1 record after a 15-7 win Wednesday night over East Kentwood.

"David Newberger epitomizes the (term) student-athlete," Rockford Coach David McWatters said.

‘Super Duper:’ Alice Cooper Rockin’ with Motley Crue Tonight at Van Andel Arena!

Alice Cooper has a radio show and a documentary about him was just released.

But Cooper, who was born in Detroit, continues to rock after more than four decades performing!

From his first solo album, 1975′s "Welcome to My Nightmare" through releases such as 1994′s "The Last Temptation" and 2000′s "Brutal Planet," themed releases have been Cooper's specialty. Drawing from horror movies, vaudeville, and garage rock, his stage shows have featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood and boa constrictors over the years.

Tonight at Van Andel Arena, Cooper is on stage before Mötley Crüe.

Tonight, Mötley Crüe opens its The Final Tour -- its farewell tour, with Cooper along for the ride.

University of Michigan men's basketball players Glenn Robinson III and Nik Stauskas are forgoing their last two years of eligibility to enter the NBA Draft.

Grand Rapids Nets NBA D-League Franchise for 2014-15 Season

The NBA Development League today announced that SSJ Group, LLC, led by Steve Jbara, has purchased the Springfield Armor and is relocating the Massachusetts club to Grand Rapids for the 2014-15 season with a direct affiliation with the NBA's Detroit Pistons.

The announcement was made this afternoon at The DeltaPlex Arena & Conference Center.
