I grew up in the Kalamazoo area and played ball until my sophomore year of high school.

I, ahem, blew out my knee and couldn't run anymore. That's it. Just as I was graduating, I heard about this kid playing American Legion ball named Jeter. Was gonna be a big leaguer some day. While I Heard that a lot, I didn't think anything of it.

So, I was so wrong about that.

The New York Yankees' Derek Jeter will likely be a first ballot Baseball Hall of Famer and is easily one of the most talented and well known athletes in the country.

So, when he comes back home to Michigan, it's a pretty big deal.

The New York Yankee showed up, along with Santa Claus and his elves at the Kalamazoo Valley library for an event honoring "250 young people who are demonstrating positive behavior, academic excellence, and leadership qualities in school and their communities," WZZM reported.

Way to go kids! And Derek!
