Belding area schools could soon have a new mascot.

The Belding School Board of Education will meet tonight to discuss picking a new mascot to replace the district's current one, the Redskins.

WZZM-13 reports that at last month's board meeting, most attendees expressed the desire to change the mascot, believing calling themselves the Redskins to be racist.

According to the school's website, board meetings are held the third Monday of every month at 1975 Orchard Street Belding MI 48809 in the Orchard Hills Building, starting at 7:00 p.m.

The public is encouraged to attend.
