This winter we learned that it is technically illegal to warm up your car in your driveway while you are not in it. At first, everyone thought that even though this was a law, that it would not be enforced. That is until a Detroit resident was ticketed $128 for warming up his car in his driveway.

That ticket caught the attention of Michigan lawmakers and Republican Representative Holly Hughes sponsored a bill that would change the law to only prohibit unattended cars parked on public streets.

Many cities and lawmakers oppose the bill, citing that it makes it easier to steal cars, but the bill still passed in the house. Next the bill is off to the Senate, and if it passes, it will only require the signature of the Governor to become law.
