Bob Seger Releases Glenn Frey Tribute Song On The Anniversary Of His Death

It was a year ago today that Glenn Frey, the Michigan born singer-songwriter from the Eagles passed away. And an obviously sad Bob Seger has released a tribute song to him on his web site.

'Glenn Song' was released as a free download on Bob's web site earlier this morning. The plaintive ballad, reminscent of early '70s Neil Young, contains lyrics about Bob's memories of Glenn, who was a big influence on his career.

'We were strong, we were sharp, but you had the deepest heart,' Bob sings to a backing track that makes one feel that Bob's loss has him contemplating his own mortality.

'We showed the whole world what to do, there was no one quite like you.'

Frey and Seger's relationship started in the late '60s in the fledgling Detroit rock scene. Frey is heard singing back up vocals on Seger's first national hit, 'Ramblin' Gamblin' Man', and Seger co-wrote the Eagles hit 'Heartache Tonight' when both were at the top of their games.

Frey also sang on Seger's 'Against The Wind' album.

"He was a cheerleader for me," Seger told the Detroit Free Press in an emotional interview the night of Frey's death. "He was always a positive influence for me, throughout my career.”
