Very sad news to report about a young boy scout that died Saturday after being covered by a sand dune in South Haven.

According to WOOD TV, the 12-year-old scout was playing in the sand at a Boy Scout Camp that is just south of South Haven when he became trapped in the sand.

The scout, Gage Wilson, was digging into a sand dune when it slammed down over his upper body and was trapped for 15 to 30 minutes before one of the other scouts discovered him.

Scout leaders performed CPR on the boy and Emergency responders took over once they arrived.

The young boy was then air lifted to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo where he unfortunately died.

The South Haven Police say this incident looks to be a terribly tragic accident, but will still investigate until the complete autopsy comes back.

The Michigan Crossroads Council CEO and Scout Executive Donals Shephard offered their deepest condolences to the victim and his family. You can read the full statement below.
