Butch Trucks Joins ZZ Top On Stage
As the Allman Brothers Band prepares for its final shows later this year, founding Allmans member Butch Trucks joined Texas blues-rock legends ZZ Top on stage in Nimes, France, on Saturday night. Footage of Trucks performing the ZZ Top classic 'Tush' can be seen above.
Trucks shared details of his appearance via the Roots Rock Revival Facebook page, noting that both the Allmans and ZZ Top got their start at the same time: "Went to see some old friends ZZ Top play last night. They were playing at an ancient Roman Arena in Nimes, about 30 minutes from our place. They started the same year we did, 1969, and are still going strong. Lots of fun, even if I only had a snare, a tom and one cymbal. Most definitely one of the most original sit ins ever."
Saturday night wasn't the first time that members of the Allmans and ZZ Top have shared a stage: ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill first sat in with the Allmans in New Orleans in 1997, while in 2009 and 2011, Gibbons joined the Allmans at New York City's Beacon Theatre.
