Yes, Artprize is over. The last of the installments in the B.O.B. parking lot have been taken down. Sure the Gerald Ford graffiti picture actually ON the B.O.B. will still be there long after the competition has ended, but Downtown Grand Rapids has gotten back to normal. So if you have been wrapped up in the World's Largest Art competition, here's something you might have missed in the past three weeks.
This weekend is our last chance to enjoy ArtPrize 2012.
The winners, from the jury and the people's vote, will be popular destinations. But there are many other options and ways to experience ArtPrize 2012 one last time.
Take a look at some of the highlights of the final weekend of ArtPrize 2012.
The winner of ArtPrize 2012 will be announced on Friday, October 5.
You have until Thursday, October 4, at 11:59pm to vote for your favorite from the Top 10. Choosing just one favorite can be difficult, but there is still time to debate and discuss between now and the deadline.
Which are your favorites? And which are your least favorites?
Friday night one of the most spectacular projects in the history or Artprize lit up Downtown Grand Rapids. "Lights in the Night" were thousands of Chinese lanterns lit and released into the sky Friday night during the second weekend of Artprize.
September 28 to September 30 will be the biggest and busiest weekend of ArtPrize.
There will be a rush of people trying to get one last look at entries before first round voting ends at 11:59pm on Saturday, September 29. Then we'll have a rush of people to see the Top 10 after it is announced on Sunday.
It's going to be busy and it's going to be fun! Let's look at the highlights of the second weekend of ArtPrize 2012.
Just a few nights ago, Faith and I walked around ArtPrize and saw some amazing art.
But the one piece that is *still* my favorite is one I've been seeing since before ArtPrize began last week. The drawing is phenomenal and moving, not only in its difficulty but its sentiment as well
I'm not an artist, but I love ArtPrize. I am repeatedly amazed at the paintings and sculptures we see and I could only imagine how one would physically create one of these pieces...until now.
Check out a these time lapse videos which show some ArtPrize 2012 entries being created.
So I wandered around Downtown a bit yesterday during Artprize. Most people posting on the internets during the world's biggest art competition have pictures of art, or pictures of themselves along with the art, or pictures of themselves with the art drunk. Me, on the other hand, offer these pictures.
The first weekend of ArtPrize can be one of the most fun. There are 1,517 entries and the "short list"/top 25s have not been announced, making it too early to name any favorites.
There is so much to see and do and so much art to be discovered. Let's take a look at some of the highlights of the first weekend of ArtPrize 2012.
Bringing the kids downtown to ArtPrize for the day can be a lot fun, but you have to be prepared. Whether you are working around naps, school schedules, or any kind of busy schedule, time is limited.
Check out our ArtPrize Kids Guide and maximize your time downtown with the kids.
Getting out to see art and vote on your favorite pieces is what makes ArtPrize so much fun.
ArtPrize's rules and award categories continue to change year-to-year, but it's the people's vote that makes the contest what it is.
