‘Welcome Back’ by John Sebastian – Classic Hit or Miss

Welcome Back" is a popular record that was the theme song of the 1970s American television sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter. Written and recorded by former Lovin' Spoonful frontman John Sebastian, it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week in May 1976 after only five weeks on the chart (the show itself had become an instant ratings success upon its premiere the previous Fall). The song also topped the Easy Listening chart and reached number 93 on the Country chart.

‘Domino’ by Van Morrison – Classic Hit or Miss

It was released by Warner Bros. Records in October 1970 as the first of three singles from the album and reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Waite was born in Lancaster, England. He first came to attention as the lead singer and bassist of The Babys, a British group which had moderate chart success, including two pop hits that both coincidentally peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Isn't It Time" (1977) and "Everytime I Think Of You" (1979),and a solid following for their concert tours. Over the course of five years, the band produced five albums ending with the final album On the Edge in October 1980, after which the group broke up.

"You Are" is the title of a popular song from 1983 by the R&B singer-songwriter Lionel Richie. "You Are" was written by Richie and his then-wife, Brenda Harvey Richie. It appears on his self-titled debut solo album, which came out in 1982.Released as the follow-up single to his number-one hit song "Truly", "You Are" reached the top five on three major Billboard music charts. "Saturday Night Special" is a hard rock song by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It is the opening track on their album Nuthin' Fancy. The song addresses the issue of gun control. Its lyrics refer to the cheap handguns popularly associated with the term "Saturday Night Special", and associates them with impulsive violence; the following examples being given: a man being shot by a home intruder, a gambler shooting his gambling partners during a losing night, and accidentally shooting oneself while intoxicated. Notably, it argues that they "in't good for nothin' / 'Cept for puttin' a man six feet in a hole."

‘Nights are Forever’ by England Dan and John Ford Coley

The duo began while they were friends and classmates at W. W. Samuell High School in Dallas, Texas. Seals and Coley performed first as part of Dallas pop/psych group Southwest F.O.B. (Freight on Board) Seals was the younger brother of Jim Seals of the 1970s soft rock duo Seals and Crofts. Dan's childhood nickname was "England Dan" because he was a fan of English rock band The Beatles, and he occasionally adopted an affected English accent. John Colley's last name was re-spelled "Coley" for ease of pronunciation; "Ford" was added as his middle name for flow purposes, thus England Dan and John Ford Coley.

‘Come Monday’ by Jimmy Buffet – Classic Hit or Miss

"Come Monday"  was first released on his 1974 album Living & Dying in ¾ Time and was his first Top 40 hit single reaching #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as #3 Easy Listening and #58 Country.  Buffett wrote the song to his wife while he was on tour. At a live performance in 1974, Buffett mentioned that he wrote the song heading out to California the previous year, so would have been written as he was "heading up to San Francisco for the Labor Day Weekend show" in 1973. The single version of the song replaces the third line, "I've got my Hush Puppies on," with "I've got my hiking shoes on."
