I'm here to tell you, this was one of the hottest summers I can ever remember. Sure we complain about the Michigan weather often, since it's SO lovely and average. (Please note the dripping sarcasm) But really, like for real, this has been one of the hottest summers ever in West Michigan.
That's quite a few compared to the past few years. In 2011, West Michigan had a grand total of 8 "Clean Air" action days, the new name the EPA gave what used to be called "Ozone Action" days. The days where the wind blows ozone and other unhealthy airborne particles from places like Chicago and Milwaukee.

It's back! The 2012 Michigan Pirate Festival is back in West Michigan at the Loutit District Library in Grand Haven this week. "Talk Like a Pirate" day is in September, but there will be plenty of "Arrrghs" and "Walk The Plank" heard around the Lake Michigan shoreline when pirates sail into the area on the Grand River at Harbor Island. Wonder if we will see Jack Sparrow? (Actually we will! Jack, Princess Buttercup, Capt. Hook and Peter Pan will all be at this year's fest) Johnny Depp? Maybe even Michael Bolton?
What do you think of the flap over the city of Wyoming's logo? A group called "Freedom From Religion Foundation" based out of Madison, Wisconsin, has called for the West Michigan city to remove the picture of a church steeple with a cross off it's city logo, citing separation of church and state. For me, I don't think it's that big of a deal, but I can see why people would think it is.

Ok, it's early in the week, but there are so many great things happening around West Michigan this whole week , I couldn't wait til the weekend! For starters, the Berlin Fair is underway in Marne! Who doesn't love fair food and kids! And Tuesday is 15th birthday of the Grand Rapids Children's Museum! There's cake and a new exhibit unveiled between 5 and 8!

Michigan State Police have distributed talking urinal cakes to about 400 eating and drinking establishments in Wayne, Bay, Delta and Ottawa counties. The cake will ask men when they start to, um, go...if they have had to much to drink and need a cab called. Hmmm.
