Most college kids are more interested in drinking the beer than brewing it, but starting Fall 2015 students at Central Michigan University will have the chance to study the science behind one of their favorite libations.

The craft beer/home brew trend continues to gain momentum as CMU plans to offer a certificate program in "fermentation science" for the 2015-2016 school year- the first in the state to offer such a program.

In addition to a 200-hour internship students will also study chemistry, biochemistry, and microbiology, as well as being required to attend hands-on laboratory classes to perfect their skills in brewing.

Says Cordell DeMattei, CMU Director of fermentation science:

The undergraduate certificate in fermentation science will fill a need in the state and across the region for students to learn the science and technology underlying brewing"

Hey- my unofficial major in college was "beer studies" anyway!
