Central Michigan's last second "Hail Mary" pass play to defeat 22nd ranked Oklahoma State ruined another perfect week of predictions (well, THAT, and Hope College's love of turning the ball over).  But when it's your alma mater getting the better end of a bad call by the officials, all is forgiven!

Let's see what's on tap for week three.

Last week I finished with a record of 4-2, leaving me with a season total of 9-3, way off last year's pace of 11-1. But that's what happens when MAC teams go on the road and are given the benefit of the doubt from the officials.

Last week, it was Western's phantom yard line fumble save against Northwestern, and this week it was Central's wild finish to upset OSU that screwed up my picks.

Eight officials were suspended following the decision to give CMU an extra play to win the game, but I'm not upset. Why not? Because even though they got the call wrong, their heart was in the place. You should never be able to run out the clock by committing an infraction, even if the rules allow it.

Here we go with week three --

Colorado (2-0) at Michigan (2-0) -- Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, 3:30pm Saturday

Much was made of M's inability to get a ground game going last week against Central Florida, but who knows? Maybe UCF will wind up with a top rated run defense. Ever think of THAT? Look for the Wolverines to pound the ball against the Buffaloes, but this will be a bit of a test. No upset here, but not a big win either. Look for Harbaugh to pick his nose several times.

Michigan State (1-0) at Notre Dame (1-1) -- Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, IN, 7:30pm Saturday

I'm happy to see this gae old rivalry resume after a three year hiatus. Notre Dame can fling the football around, but they have a hard time stopping people, especially in the run game. When it comes down to it, thought, this is a much bigger game for the Irish at this point of the season than it is for the Spartans. The Irish will claw and scratch to stay in title contention, especially within view of Touchdown Jesus.

Nevada-Las Vegas (1-1) at Central Michigan (2-0) -- Kelly Shorts Stadium, Mt.Pleasant, 3:00pm Saturday

The Chippewas will have to fight off a let down after that dramatic win last week in Stillwater. UNLV isn't a pushover, and their defensive front gave UM fits last year. Central's Cooper Rush will have to spread the ball around again if the Chips are to prevail.

Western Michigan (2-0) at Illinois (1-1) -- Memorial Stadium, Champaign IL, 4:00pm Saturday

Northwestern is a much better team than the Illini, but road games in the Big Ten are never a gimme if you're a MAC team. Former Bears coach Lovie Smith will turn Illinois around eventually, but it will take awhile. This Bronco team is too good offensively to lose to a mistake prone and pouros Illini defense.

Northern Michigan (1-1) at Grand Valley (2-0) -- Lubbers Stadium, Allendale, 7:00pm Saturday

A trap game for the Lakers in the GLIAC, as Northern, while not great, has a lot of fight in them, having gone into overtime after trailing in both of their games this season. The Lakers, meanwhile, have been flexing their new found defensive muscle behind DB Nate Cole. Offensive has enver been a problem for GVSU, and it won't be this week, either.

Ferris State (2-0) at Northwood (0-2) -- Hantz Stadium, Midland, 1:00pm Saturday

The Bulldogs were tested by a very good Michigan Tech team last week in Houghton, but the emergnce of quarterback Reggie Bell as a solid offensive threat as to make Ferris feel a little more secure. The Timberwolves, who lost an overtime last week at Saginaw Valley, are going to be good, but may be too young to contend this season.
