Criminal Had Perfect Escape Plan Until State Police Got Tip

Things got a little exciting at a hotel in Rockford Wednesday morning when a robbery suspect had planned his escape to be on the friendly skies out of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. But, Michigan State Police had other plans for the wayward traveler.

According to WOOD TV, the suspect was wanted for allegedly stealing $600 from an East Bay Township motel near Traverse City Tuesday. Apparently, a hotel clerk was not looking when the suspect reached into the cash register and swiped the cash.

A few hours after the theft at the East Bay motel, Michigan State Police received a tip that the suspect had plans to leave the state via plane at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

State Police in Rockford apprehended the suspect at the hotel the tipster described to police early Wednesday morning.

Michigan State Police say the suspect may have committed several other crimes around Grand Traverse County.

The suspect has new digs at the Kent County Jail until police transport him to the Grand Traverse County Jail.

The Michigan State Police tweeted some words of advice that said "if you're a criminal, fleeing the area, we'll just get you a long ride back in a blue goose."
