Deep Purple will halt work on a follow up to the well-received ‘Now What?’ for a summer tour of North America. Planned stops, listed below, range from coast to coast.

The first date on the itinerary in Scottsdale, Ariz., is set to take place just two weeks after the band wraps up another extensive set of European concerts. There are no Michigan dates, but Deep Purple has stops Aug. 20 in Elgin, Ill., outside Chicago and Aug. 21 in Windsor, Ontario, across the river from Detroit.

Meanwhile, the indefatigable Deep Purple began preparing a new album in between shows. As Ian Gillan noted recently, they're not close to slowing down.

“We have been called old rockers, rock pensioners and dinosaurs,” he said. “I mean, I have a thick skin. I understand that, of course, if the young ones say: ‘Step aside, Grandpa! Die at last!’ I think to myself then stop: ‘F— you.’”
