Def Leppard will be featured as part of the pre-game show at the initial NFL game this year in London.

Yup - you heard that right. The International Series kicks off as Oakland faces Miami on Sept. 28, in the first of three 2014 contests at the famed Wembley Stadium.

Frontman Joe Elliott was in the same venue earlier this year, but for a different kind of football. “Having most recently visited Wembley in May to watch Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-final, I know what the atmosphere in the ground is like for ‘our’ football,” he jokes. “I’m really looking forward to performing there before the NFL game — and, of course, soaking up the excitement of the actual match. I can’t wait!”

The band is no stranger to supporting sports on this side of the pond, having played at the NHL Face Off Rocks concert in 2008.

The Raiders-Dolphins game, which airs on CBS, will kick off at 1:00 pm ET. Def Leppard’s appearance is part of the ninth regular-season NFL game to be held in London since 2007. Def Leppard follows previous players Goo-Goo Dolls, My Chemical Romance and Train.

Did you know the NFL has a web site which caters to its fans in Great Britain? The NFL-UK is up and running to get the word out about what they call "American Football".

Def Leppard is still putting out new music; here's one of its latest, "Where Does Love Go When It Dies?"
