Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Daniel Norris announced on Instagram and Twitter Monday that he has thyroid cancer and will undergo surgery to remove a tumor now that the Tigers' season has ended.

Norris, 22, was traded to Detroit for David Price back in July.

"I've been debating for months as to how or even if I should share this with people. I'm a firm believer in the power of prayer. So now, I'm asking for prayers,” he said in his Instagram post. He also said that playing baseball helped him deal with the diagnosis and that his doctor said it was fine for him to wait until the end of the season to undergo treatment.
