Michigan may have one of the highest return rates on cans and bottles, but don’t worry, we wont lead the way on banning plastic bags.

A measure that bans local governments within the state from prohibiting, regulating or banning plastic bags, also known as “auxiliary containers” (which are one time use bags, cups, bottles or other packaging) has passed the state Senate in May and now has been approved by the House Commerce and Trade Committee.  The measure now heads to the full House for the another, final vote. It's expected to pass the Republican-led Legislature.

Around 150 communities have banned the use of plastic bags, none of which are in Michigan.

So no worries, while we save the world with cans and bottle return, our plastic bags will forever be an “American Beauty” art piece floating along the street.
