XO Asian Cuisine, the downtown Grand Rapids restaurant shut down by health inspectors last week, has been cleared to reopen as early as Friday.

The Kent County Health Department shut down XO Asian Cuisine after an inspection found roughly 30 violations of state food law.

The restaurant was required the restaurant to close for at least seven days and the owners were fined $6,000. In order to reopen XO needed to pass an inspection with zero violations.

Max Bjorkmen with the Kent County Health Department told WZZM-13 that while the progress made by XO is promising, they have not yet been able to observe the restaurant while it is open and serving food to the public. The Health Department will continue to monitor the restaurant's progress once it reopens.

The restaurant may open again as soon as Friday, but it's ultimately up to the owners to decide when they will do so.
