Elton John is well known for being a vocal warrior against AIDS and now he's taking his mission, with help from his foundation, to Washington.

At a senate hearing yesterday, Sir Elton called America's commitment "historic" and urged politicians to keep it up because the fight is not yet over.

The music icon thanked former President George W. Bush and a bipartisan congress for making a difference in combating the disease.  He added that Congress has the power to make AIDS a thing of the past and end it once and for all.

Captain Fantastic went on to add that the US has a great power that they can wield in the world, adding, “This Congress indeed has the power to end AIDS. I am here today to ask you to use that power. “There is a window of opportunity before us — a window through which we can very clearly see the end of AIDS — within my lifetime. We cannot afford to let that window close."
