Elton John’s Mother Opens Up About Their Seven-Year Estrangement

Elton John apparently doesn’t have the very best relationship with his mother. Ninety-year-old Sheila Farebrother gave an interview to The Daily Mail over the weekend where she revealed that she hasn’t talked to her famous son in nearly seven years.

In fact, a bouquet of orchids which John sent for her 90th birthday was the first time she had heard from him in all that time.

Sheila claims she and John have had a falling out after he ordered her to stop talking to two of their oldest friends, Bob Halley, his former driver, and John Reid, his former manager.

Since Sheila had known both men for decades she refused which had Elton raging.

Said Sheila: “Then to my utter amazement, he told me he hated me. And he then banged the phone down. Imagine! To me, his mother!”

And it seems Sheila blames John's husband, David Furnish, for the singer’s decision to cut ties with a lot of his former friends.

During their last conversation, she reportedly told John: “You think more of that f***ing thing you married than your own mother."

Meanwhile, sources say that despite their estrangement, John is still supporting his mother and has been for the past four decades.

“He is upset and cross, but people should remember that Elton pays all of her bills and that won’t stop,” a friend told The Mirror. “Despite everything, Sheila is his mother and he couldn’t see her struggle financially, or go without medical care she needs as a 90-year-old woman.

"What a terrible shame it has come to this. Elton hopes that people don’t believe everything they read.”
