In February, a Mason County Circuit Court jury of nine women and three men found Knysz guilty of murdering Butterfield in a shootout at a gas station.

Knysz was found guilty of the murder of a peace officer, stealing a car and two weapons charges.

The fatal shooting of Butterfield came in a shootout during a traffic stop of the vehicle which Knysz was driving with his wife, Sarah, a passenger.
