Every Actor’s Portrayal of Superman is Wrong … Here’s Why

In light of the new Batman vs Superman movie, here's why I think we have never seen an accurate portrayal of the man of steel.

In case you have been living under a rock, there's a new superman movie out right now Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Here's the movie trailer in case you haven't seen it.

Obviously they did something right with that movie as it brought in $166 million this past weekend.

So, back to topic, Superman is of course a comic book character who was born on another planet. Yadda yadda yadda he crash landed here on earth in Smallville, Kansas. He grows up and moves to Metropolis and gets a job as a newspaper reporter and works under Lois Lane.... eh you know the drill.

Okay, so what do we have wrong?

The accent.

When you see Superman, on the big (or little) screen, you'll hear a commanding deeply baritone voice speaking in an neutral accent.

However, Jonathan and Martha Kent, Superman's adoptive parents, found and raised little Clark 'Superman' Kent in a small town in Kansas on a farm. Right? All of his formative years are spent in small community, where accents tend to be more rural sounding. In the more metropolitan areas accents become muted. Which is exactly what we've been hearing, when we should be hearing something closer to this guy's accent.

Now, if you close your eyes and listen, this guy doesn't particularly sound heroic. However, I propose this is what Clark Kent should actually sound like.

I know what you're thinking 'That is totally not what a superhero should sound like!' Exactly, the country accent would throw people off from realizing his identity.

Call me nuts but I think I'm on to something here.

I should probably state for the record. I do not know much about comic books. So, there very well could be a country sounding superman that was experimented with at some point. Or, it could be comic book cannon that he has a krypton accent which just happens to be generic in America as well.

I just had the thought this morning "Clark Kent is from the country and his accent should reflect that". I thought I should share with the class.
