Early Monday morning a federal judge has ordered the Michigan Election Recount to begin today at noon.  The order came after the U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith held a three hour emergency hearing late Sunday night.  Shortly after midnight, Goldsmith announced that the recount needed to begin today so the state could "assemble necessary staff to work sufficient hours."

According to Michigan law, recounts require a two business day waiting period to start the recount, but Goldsmith ordered the process to be expedited.  The recount in Michigan needs to be completed by December 13th as to comply with with the federal "safe harbor" deadline.  The state needs to guarantee that Michigan's electoral votes are counted when the electoral college meets on December 19th.

The decision can still be appealed to the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, but as of 9am this morning, no such appeal has been made.

The Jill Stein Campaign is currently asking for volunteers to help oversee the recount.  You can sign up on the Stein Campaign website.
