The real estate market is still hot in West Michigan, and if you're into flipping houses (buying them low, renovating and selling for a profit), GR is in the top ten in the nation for doing just that.

I would flip my house, except for the fact that I can't get that low of a monthly payment anywhere if I move out, so I'm staying put. Plus, I have A LOT of work to do yet.

But if you're into that sort of thing, Grand Rapids was rated the seventh best market to flip a house in 2017 by the economic web site WalletHub.

Flip Or Flop? Flip! (Like it's ever as easy as they make it look on TV, those guys never even seem to get dirty).

Here's how GR stacked up in some of the vital categories of house flipping:

Flipping a House in Grand Rapids (1=Best; 75=Avg.)

  • 21st – Avg. Gross Return on Investment
  • 16th – Median Purchase Price
  • 19th – Housing-Market Health Index
  • 6th – Avg. Kitchen Remodeling Costs
  • 14th – Avg. Bathroom Remodeling Costs

Doing even better than GR for flippers are markets like Fort Wayne IN, Tampa FL and El Paso TX.
