According to law enforcement sources and his former wife, former Lions' quarterback Erik Kramer shot himself on Tuesday night in an attempt to take his own life.

NBC reports that Kramer's ex-wife claims that he has suffered from depression for years, and she believes that it is a result of the time he spent in the NFL.

Kramer was a part of the 1991 Lions' team that went 12-4 and won the NFC Championship. He then played for the Bears for five seasons, and ended his career with the Chargers.

In 2011, Kramer's 18-year-old son, Griffen, died from a drug overdose.
