Hunters ages 16 years old and younger can get a free junior deer hunting license at all Meijer stores in Michigan on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 12 and 13).

For both days, Meijer is giving away free junior hunting licenses. A coupon is required to obtain the license which is worth $20.

Youths must be accompanied by an adult. Coupons can be redeemed in the sporting goods department of Meijer stores either day,

Meijer has offered free deer hunting licenses for youths since 2008, but this year will work differently because of changes in Michigan's hunting license structure.

The coupon is valid for a single junior deer hunting license, a $20 value, or mentored youth hunting license. However, those who hunt in Michigan must also purchase a base license, which costs $6 for youths ages 10 to 16 years old.

The base license allows hunters to hunt small game and purchase additional hunting licenses.

The mentored youth hunting license, valid only for hunters younger than age 10, includes a base license and does not require separate purchase of the base license.
