Did you have a good relaxing Labor Day weekend? Well, we hope so because judging from a new Gallup Poll survey, it sounds like Americans really are in need of a good vacation, because we are all incredibly overworked.

It’s not that surprising, but apparently the old 40-hour work week just doesn’t exist anymore. In fact, the average American is working at least 47 hours a week, with more and more people saying that number is more like 60.

Based on the 2014 Work and Education survey, half of all full-time workers say they clock in more than 40 hours a week, while almost 21 percent work between 50-59. Only eight percent of people reported working less than 40 hours, with 42 percent actually putting in 40-hour weeks.

And salaried workers seem to have it worse than hourly. They are putting in on average five more hours a week, 49 verses the hourly employees’ 44. When’s the next vacation?

Do you work over 40 hours a week? Have you taken any steps to make sure you don’t put in too many hours?
