Last week, many Grand Rapids residents were inconvenienced when the major intersection of Michigan and Fuller was closed for repairs.

We warned people the Police were cracking down on drivers who attempted to skirt around the mess by driving through business parking lots. As it turns out, one of the scofflaws was City Commissioner Senita Lenear.

It turns out her excuse was better than anything you could have come up with.

According to the video obtained by WOOD TV 8, Lenear expresses her opinion that the signs weren't well placed, and then she offers a solution: man the entire intersection with police officers.

She later told News 8,

“I think the community can be best served by officers being out redirecting traffic because it will protect the property of the business owners while it’s also helping to educate the public."

To her credit, Lenear never told the officer she was a city commissioner.

The intersection has since been reopened to traffic.

According to News 8, 64 citations were issued for using public or private property to avoid traffic control at the intersection of Michigan and Fuller. The infraction comes with a $170 fine and two points penalty.
