The Griffins annual Teddy Bear Toss was this weekend. A big thank you to all the fans who brought in a Teddy Bear and tossed it on the ice after the Griffs first goal.

It all went smoothly at Van Andel Arena Saturday night, but check inside for an example of a Teddy Bear toss gone wrong.

The Teddy Bear Toss has been going on for years at Van Andel. Just before the Christmas season, fans are invited to bring in new Teddy Bears to toss on the ice following the Griffins forst score. The bears are then swept up and donated to the the Kent County Hug-A-Bear Foundation to pass out to kids who were the victims of fires or other life tragedies to help ease thier pain.

Here's what it looked like Saturday after the first goal.

Hockey teams have long done Teddy Bear Tosses, and recently at a game in Ontario, it looked like the home team scored, prompting the deluge of Teddy Bears, only to find out the goal was disallowed, so while the charity still got the Bears, the home fans didn't get the joy of a score. Oh, well, it's the thought that counts.
