Grand Rapids Home for Veterans to Host Annual Fishing Derby for Residents

The pond behind the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans will be stocked with 125 rainbow trout on Wednesday, May 13, giving residents of the home the opportunity to spend a “day on the lake” reeling in their own fish.

A fish fry at the pavilion following the derby will feature fresh fish caught by the veterans that morning, as well as coleslaw and fries.

More than 100 members are expected to participate in the day’s festivities, which will also include prizes awarded in categories such as most fish and largest fish caught.

The derby will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans is located at 3000 Monroe Ave. NW in Grand Rapids.
