A couple of guys who live downtown left some food out for the homeless, and what they received back was both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

It's reminder of how much a simple act of kindness can mean to a person.

YouTube user Andy P posted this story about his brother and his friends who had some extra food and decided to share it with the homeless in their neighborhood. What they received back was at once heartwarming and heartbreaking and illustrates the difficulties faced by the less fortunate in our city.

Yes, I know we all have encountered aggressive panhandlers and drunk guys tumbling down Division, but in their midst are people who truly have been handed a series of tough breaks.

I realize it seems self-serving to post a video about helping people out, and I get that, but this letter seems to be from a man who needs to get his story off of his chest.

In the letter, after thanking the men for the food, he begins to paint a picture of how he got to be homeless, and what life is like out on the street. He offers a snapshot about trying to exist without much means, and how getting hassled and having his things stolen seem to be common occurrences. He also offers some criticism for a local shelter.

The man in the video is looking to help this homeless man further, so if you have any clue as to who he is, drop a line to his video page.

I've fast forwarded the video to where he starts to read the letter.
