Unlock your doors and feel safe walking on the streets downtown because Grand Rapids is one of the safest cities in America!  OK, well, it's the 48th safest city according to WalletHub.com, but that's still pretty good!

The survey ranked all of the mid to large sized cities in the United States and Michigan had 2 cities on that list.  Grand Rapids had the highest ranking in Michigan at #48 and the other city, Detroit, came in near the bottom of the list at 177 out of 182.

Grand Rapids did rank pretty high in one metric, that really isn't too surprising.  Grand Rapids is one of the safest cities in the country in terms of Natural-Disaster Risk.  We are the 7th safest in the nation and the safest in the Midwest.

There were 3 key dimensions that WalletHub used to determine their rankings: Home & Community Safety, Natural-Disaster Risk, and Financial Safety.  Those dimensions were further broken down into several different metrics to determine the city's ranks.  You can read more about WalletHub's methodology here.
