Grand Rapids, the reigning Beer City USA and recently voted Best Beer Town in the USA has been named one of the 2014 Best Beer Cities by Livability, a company that explores what makes small-to-medium sized cities great places to live.

But wait: Grand Rapids is only No. 6 on this list?!? What cities could have possibly beaten us out?

You can't win them all, I suppose.

Somewhere called Bend, Ore., grabbed the No. 1 position.

According to Livability:

Breweries like Cascade, Silver Moon and Three Creeks illustrate the attachment Bend, OR, residents have to the great outdoors. To many people living in Bend, the city’s thriving beer scene is as important an amenity as bike trails, hiking paths, ski resorts and parks. On a per-capita basis Bend has one of the nation’s highest concentrations of breweries. The more than 25 breweries located in and around Bend give residents easy access to high-quality, locally made beer.

Well. I don't know about all that.

I mean, they do say some pretty nice stuff about Grand Rapids, too:

An ample supply of fresh spring water helped Grand Rapids, MI, become one of the midwest’s best-known beer cities in the early 1900s. ... Today, there are more than 15 breweries in Grand Rapids and the surrounding area, quenching the thirst residents have for premium, sophisticated brews...What makes living in Grand Rapids (one of our 2015 Best Places to Live) even better for beer lovers is that they’re less than an hour away from Kalamazoo, which made our list of Best Beer Cities in 2011

You're darn right! Grand Rapids IS awesome.

Livability even quoted our mayor, George Heartwell!

“(Beer) generates its own tourism,” said Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell in an interview last year. “People come to try craft beers and spend a few days in Grand Rapids enjoying our local breweries.”

Here's the full list. I know it's not a No. 1. But still, our fair city is getting recognized for it's stellar craft beer and breweries! We'll get 'em next time, GR!
