I don't know if former Grandville resident Jake Elliot spent most of his high school years playing with his yoyo between classes, but if he did, it finally paid off. The 28-year-old Elliot is now the World's YoYo Champion. And the United States doesn't win that title often.

USA! USA! USA! USA!

Elliot, who now lives in Milford, won in the closest decision in the history of the World Yoyo Title Event, which is held in Tokyo. Six time champion Japan's Takeshi Matsuura came in second.

Here's Elliot's championship winning performance. I'm not sure what they were judging on but it looks impressive, especially to someone like me who can't even get the YoYo to come back up once.

And here's Matsuura's performance so you can compare. Clearly the home town fans had a favorite.
