What a great time to be a Michigan hockey fan! Of the 8 Pro, Minor and Junior league hockey championships going on right now, 3 have Michigan ties.

The Michigan Warriors of the NAHL lost their championship game a couple of nights ago in their first year based out of Flint. Last night the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL (and my hometown team!) advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals vs. the Alaska Aces starting Saturday. And there's the Red Wings. Oh the Red Wings. It's possible the majority of the state last night held it's breath when the Sharks took a 1-0 lead with about 11 minutes to go in the 3rd. The the Wings scored 3 times, forcing a game 7 Tomorrow night in San Jose...Say, do you know the way...?

Watch the highlights from the game last night...I really though Ken Daniels, Red Wings announcer, was going to have a coronary on Live TV...Watch at 4:47 in...His voice cracks and I thought he was gonna expire right there...

The Davenport and GVSU teams both won their National Championships, Hope lost in THEIR championship game, Michigan and Western Michigan teams made deep runs into the NCAA tourney, the Muskegon Lumberjacks had a fine first season in the USHL, and even the Catholic Central and Forest Hills Northern High School teams had great seasons. With all of that Michigan gives Minnesota a run for it's money with the "State of Hockey" claim.
