The Grand Rapids Griffins got together with the sports uniform web site Uni-Watch and had their readers come up with designs for their 2016-17 alternate jerseys.

All I can say, is WOW!

The contest to decide the new alternate jersey design has just begun. In all 86 designs will be put up for vote in eight different groups.

Just so you know, the voting for each day ends the day the uniform design are posted, so today's vote for today's jerseys ends tonight at midnight. The top three vote getters in each group will advance.

According to Uni-Watch, the uniform design contest was conceived by the Griffins staff, and entries were sent directly to the site. And one design concept that showed up repeatedly had to be explained to the site's national audience:

Marissa Malson, the Digital Marketing Manager for the Griffins (and who approached Uni Watch with this contest) has seen all the designs and wanted to point out many of the designs include an image or variation of the Calder, the iconic statue with the formal name of La Grande Vitesse, which is a symbol of the city of Grand Rapids. It might be worth mentioning that for anyone unfamiliar with that symbol.

Here are some of my favorites from Group A, let's start with this one from David Barrie that comes up with a combination Griffins/Red Wings logo.

And this one from Tony Clarkson puts a new logo on a pretty classic looking jersey.

This one, designed by Jackie Foss, from Group B shows an example of one of the jerseys incorporating the Calder statue.

I love this black and red one designed from Matt Cully, also from Group B.

And here's one by David DiFalco from Group B that's also pretty sharp.
