The Grand Rapids Griffins will be taking to the ice in Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids and skating for 24 straight hours this weekend to raise money for underprivileged children in the area.

The 13th annual Great Skate Winterfest begins at noon Saturday and runs until 10 p.m. Sunday.

Folks who attend will be able to skate with Griffins players and mascots Griff and Finn starting at 10 p.m. on Saturday. Different players will rotate through until 10 p.m. on Sunday. The full lineup of players who will participate and the times they will be skating can be found on the Griffin's website.

There will also be fun family activities throughout the weekend including sled dogs, figure skating, ice-sculpting, a fat bike race, and a family activity tent. A warming tent will also be available, as well as hot chocolate and coffee.

Admission to this event is free, but attendees are encouraged to give a donation to the Griffins Youth Foundation which helps give kids who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it the chance to play hockey.

Skates rental is $2 for adults, and $1 for kids.

Oh! And I'll be out there on the ice skating with folks and players, too! You can catch me at Rosa Parks circle from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday. I haven't been on skates in at least 15 years, so this could be interesting.
